Direct speech

It's from the BBC web site: "Once Mr Gbagbo had gone, Mr Ban said he expected Mr Ouattara to begin the process of reconciliation and restore the rule of law."

The sentence reports Mr Ban statement which I'm trying to piece together but I'm not sure of my go at it. I think it goes like that: "Once Mr Gbagbo has gone, I expect Mr Ouattara to begin the process of reconciliation and restore the rule of law."

Thank you.
