Direct Request

I came across this question while working with making requests and expressing preference. Can someone tell me the tense of 'would' in this request.

Ask her to ring Woods, would you?

Thank you for your help!

Would is a defective/modal auxiliary and therefore it has no tense. You could also say: Ask her to ring Woods, will you? Will is very common in question tags after imperatives .

It has no tense. Think of 'would you' as a different way of saying 'please'.
