Direct or indirect object?

In the sentence:

'I made up a person in my head'

Is 'a person' the direct or the indirect object of the transitive verb?

Thanks in advance.

I made up a person in my head. It's the direct object. Notice that the preposition "up" intervenes between the verb and its direct object, and that it can also occur after the object: I made a person up in my head.
