In the following 2 sentences, what are the direct objects:

1. God puts the oak in the forest, and the pine on its sand and rocks, and says to men, "There are your houses; go saw, frame and build, and make."

2. Anything of value can only be had by exertion. Exertion forges and shapes men as men forge iron and shape timbers.
