diminished vs decreased.

Hi. Please read the sentence below.

That focus on entertainment never diminished the Xbox 360's gaming bona fides, however.

Q ) Is "diminished" completely interchangeable with "decreased" in the above sentence.

There is often no difference intended but, generally speaking, I think of 'decrease' as 'reduce in number' and 'diminish' as 'reduce in size'. 'Bona fides' is not countable, so I would use 'diminish'. Clive
