Diminish and dwindle

Hi

Would you say that dwindle and diminish are essentially synonymous in the following sentence?

Her career as a film artist is dwindling/diminishing.

In my opinion, they are essentially synonymous. However, most people, I think, would use dwindling if given a choice. There might be a better word, however.

Diminishing means to become smaller. Dwindling also means to become smaller, more specifically, to gradually become less. Example: His savings account began dwindling when he started to gamble.
