dimension=aspect?

Hi,

"These weapons add a new dimension to modern warfare." In this sentence, can I use aspect to replace the word dimension? Does it mean element? Or does it mean " characteristic"? Thank you!

'Dimension' here has the sense of 'perception'. As I see it, and to put your sentence in other words: these weapons affect the way people consider or perceive warfare.
