DILEMMA

In everyday English, the word 'dilemma' is sometimes used loosely, to just refer to a difficult choice,

eg Should I marry Mary or Betty?

If you want to be more precise, a dilemma is a situation in which you need to choose between two alternatives, and both of them involve problems/difficulties. In other words, you don't really want either, but you have to make a choice.

Hello !! I found the above thread when I searched to know more about the word 'dilemma'. Please let me know is it only applicable to the situation where we really dont want either and we have to make a choice. Or can it be used in a situation like, we want to accept something as it is good but at the same time we are also confused to accept it due to some fear. Can we say in such a situation that I am in a dilemma?

Please suggest

Hi, In a situation where you want to get the result A. but if you get A you will suffer a "side effect" B which is something you do not want. If you really want A but you also do not want B, then you are in a dilemma.
