Dignify that with a response

dignify= to raise the status of

I will not dignify/raise the status of your question by answering...

But I read recently,

The film will not dignify a response.

Is this also grammatical? If so, what does it mean? Doesn't seem to make sense to me

The film will not dignify a response.

I think the expression is used ill-advisedly. It makes no sense to me either.

I'd analyze it as a transformation of an idiom, which is a process that seldom works.

Edit. The more I read it the more I realize that it's not even a correct transformation.
