Digital data are not subject to the vagaries of difficult-to-control chemical processing.

The advantage of digital over photographic imaging is evident: the resulting numerical data are precisely known, and digital data are not subject to the vagaries of difficult-to-control chemical processing.

Hi,
The blue part doesn't make sense to me. What's it talking about?
I can't see how "chemical processing" is relevant to "digital imaging".
I can't make head or tail of the blue part.

not subject to the vagaries => means what?
difficult-to-control chemical processing => means what?

Any guidance?

Thank you.

sb70012 digital data are not subject to the vagaries of difficult-to-control chemical processing. If you use digital data to create photos instead of the old way of developing photos by treating exposed film with chemicals in a dark room, you don't have to deal with any of the difficult problems that are associated with the chemical processing of film. In this way, new digital data is somewhat similar to older data systems that converted a physical view or scene to chemical film. One of the major differences is that digital data records visual information into a bitmap, or pixelated map, that stores a p
