Difficult to understand

Lorenzo Ghiberti used Alberti's new ideas on perspective to construct a second set of doors for the famous baptistery in Florence, Italy. Ghiberti is also famous for his compilation of medieval texts on the theory of vision such as that by al-Haytham. This is notable, as, until this point, there had been no connection made between the concepts of optics and vision to "those" of art. Ghiberti showed the relevance of earlier ideas on optics to the world of art.

The underlied part is ambiguous to me.

"there had been no connection made between the concepts of optics and vision" seems fine and easy to understand, but "vision to those of art" is difficult to understand.

And what does "those" refer to?

Thanks a lot...

There had been no connection made between the concepts of optics and vision to "the concepts" of art.......

Still ambiguous to me. "between A and B" is easy to understand, but here, "between A and B to C" is used... Still hard to understand for me...

Nobody made a connection between the concepts of X and Y to the concepts of Z.
