A lot depends on why the person is difficult to deal with. All those mean something like "defiant". He could also be violent, stupid, smelly, silly or a hundred other things.

Hi,

Come to think of it, we'd also describe such a person as a tough / hard nut (to crack).

PS -- I assume that is why I used the words tough / strict in my previous post.
