Diffference between these phrases?

Is there some even negligible difference between "to some degree" and "to a degree?"

In other words: between "which to some degree he is" and "which to a degree he is?"

Does one make you think of something more than the other one would? Thank you.

In my opinion, they both mean 'to some extent' and can be placed in a sentence at the beginning or end, without making much difference to the interpretation. "With limitations" "small difference" "maybe a little" - these words come to mind.
