Differnce

Hello,

What is the difference b/w these two following sentences?

Why would my score differ between credit agencies? VS Why do my score differ between credit agencies?

I read out on www.englishclub.com about the use of would as polite requests and questions. So, now my question is, in the first sentence above where "WOULD" is used. Is this just a polite way of asking a question by using "WOULD" instead of "DO"?

Thank you
