Differents between two simple sentence

To EnglishForwardhi i am confused with two simple and similar sentence.1 , Lisa told me that she is going to visit a friend this afternoon. vs2, Lisa told me she is going to visit a friend this afternoon.do they have differet meaning ?Thanks you for your help.

1. Lisa told me that she is going to visit a friend this afternoon.

2. Lisa told me she is going to visit a friend this afternoon.

3. Lisa told me she was going to visit a friend that afternoon.

There's no difference between the first two sentences, except that in the second sentence that is absent.That is commonly omitted in sentences like this, and it seems to happen more in colloquial language. However, I've added another sentence to your list which I think you might want to refer to as well. Look at the third sentence. This one is used in reported speech. When you wish to report an event happened in the past, you should use reported speech. If you take a close look at these three sentences, you will notice that in the third one I've used was instead of is, and that instead of this. In the third sentence I reported an event which took place in the past, and has nothing to do with the present anymore. In the first two sentences I'm telling my friend what Lisa is going to do this afternoon, apparently. Therefore, these two sentences have a clear connection with the present.
