Vocabulary

Differentiation marker

Hello,
Can you please help me with two questions?
1) Is 'process' OK here?
2) Can 'differentiation marker' be used here or should I replace it with, let's say, 'differentiating criteria'? It is a translation and the 'marker version' would be more literal translation.
Thank you.

As opposed to that, in specific social and historical process, through the dynamics of social relations and by determining certain differentiation marker, the boundaries between these groups are made and percieved in a society as subjective belief in the existence of differences between „us" and „them".
