Different verb tenses in the main clause (Tim)

when can we use different verb tenses in the main clause and its dependent clause ?

for example, what is the suggested difference in the following 2 cases ?

(1a) Alice called and advised me that she would fly to Germany on friday.
(1b) Alice called and advised me that she will fly to Germany on friday.
