Vocabulary

Different prepositions result in different meanings?

Hello,

If you could explain to me the differences ( if any ) between the following word combinations:

to be born

(a) OF a very wealthy family

(b) TO a very wealthy family

(c) IN a very wealthy family

Only (c) sounds "natural" in my mother tongue...

Thank you!

Vladimir

P.S. Perhaps you can tell me a link where I can find an answer to this question?

There's really not much diffference. I would say the most common is
"He was born into a very wealthy family" -- although you would say "he grew up in a very wealthy family." Of course, you can also just say "His family was very wealthy."

Oh, you might occasionally see "He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth."

Hi, Khoff

But if we substitute "parents" for "family", we should go for "to" and not "into", right?
He was born to his parents
Thanks!
