Differences using have you and did you in a asking question

hello,
im confuse using have you and did you in asking.
like for example: I lost my wallet. Have you seen it?/Did you see it?

Have you seen it [yet, recently]?
Did you see it [before]?

But if your wallet is still lost then you should say "I've lost my wallet" not just "I lost my wallet".
