What is(are) the difference(s) between the expressions "I understand A (a subject or person) more than he does." and "I understand A better than he does" ? I do understand that more refers to quantity and better refers to quality, but the boundary between these two seems unclear sometimes when it comes to cases where we used them as adverbs.
" and "I understand A better than he does" ? I don't see any significant difference in meaning between these sentences. In careful English I think the second one is preferable.
