Differences 'between' or 'among' A, B and C

Which one is correct?

What are the differences between A, B and C?

OR

What are the differences among A, B and C?

I often see people using the former, but I was taught in school to use 'between' for two things and 'among' for more than two things. :/

Dear Edward Sato, Strictly speaking, what you were taught in school still applies. And well it should. But, the language is evolving and more and more people are using "between" to mean both "between two things" and "among several things".

  • Personally, I think it's a shame because "among" is a great word and is very precise.
  • However, I have heard that some have been criticized for using "among" because it sounds too "posh" to others.
