Differences between (of, to, on, in)?

Can somebody explain the differences between of, to, on and in. I always get into situations where i use one of these four preposition to join other nouns and verbs which it causes me confusion.

IBM conducted a survey in comparing worldwide consulting firms
IBM conducted a survey on comparing worldwide consulting firms
IBM conducted a survey of comparing worldwide consulting firms
IBM conducted a survey to compare worldwide consulting firms
