Difference in usage of "need"

What is the difference between the sentences in the following pairs if they are grammatically correct? Please rephrase this question for me if it is not well-presented.

Need you do that?
Do you need to do that?

You need not do that.
You don't need to do that.

I understand "need do" is not grammatical because need is only used in the negative. Am I right?

Top answer

healer Need you do that? This is not very natural in modern everyday English. It sounds a bit like something out of an old book.
