Is there any difference between these?

Thank you.

What about this question:

When referring to a current consequence or outcome, can both is or was be used in this sentence:

this is expected to happen.
this was expected to happen.

What has this got to do with the grammar of the verb "start"?

Thank you very much. It is just that no one responded to that post. Sorry for any inconvenience. What do you mean by, what has this got to do with the grammar of the verb start?

So 'as expected' is equal to the was expected sentence. Is that why you had put it in brackets?

Thanks again.

Teacher another example I have is this:

A friend just finished his exam and failed it because he did not study for enough for it. And I see him sad and tell him, this is expected to happen. Is the use of 'is' here possible or 'was' should be used, for the same reasons you have explained?

'Was' sounds like the correct choice, but I would like your confirmation.

I think I understand. So If I were talking to him, I would say: this was expected to happen.

And the general statement, with the 'is', that you mentioned is specific to such failures in future events. So this is a statement related to the future! For example, these problems that restaurants encounter are expected to happen.

Have I understood correctly?
