Difference between would have and might have

what is the difference between 'would have' and 'might have'
In the novel 'Tilly Bagshawe - Angel of the Dark' the writer writes-
'If it weren’t for the crimson sea of blood seeping into the floorboards, it might have looked like a burglary'
why does not she write "it would have looked like a burglary'. while it is a Conditional Sentence.
