Difference between 'will' and 'would'

Hello!
In an audiobook I'm listening to, a character makes a grim prediction: "I will die on this world. I cannot tell where this conviction comes from."

When I listened to it the first time, I thought he said: "I would die on this world."

What would the difference in meaning be if my original understanding was correct?
