Difference between where were you & where are you

where were you ? means where you were .
for example i went to cinema yesterday. i see my freind today ... he asked me where were you yesterday? i say i went to cinema.

where are you?it means at the moment

for example my mom calls me and asked me where are you now?

hard to expalain for me .. if someone can help i will be gald too:)

Where were you?
This question asks where you used to be, in the past.

Where are you?
This question asks where you are now, in the present.

Today you went to:
10am - School
3pm - Shops

The time is 3pm:
Where were you? - "I was at school"
Where are you? - "I am at the shops"

No. The conjugation of "be" is irregular. There is no difference between 2nd person singular and plural.

I was
You were
He, she, it was
We were
They were

Modern English no longer uses singular you "Where wast thou?" Consequently, that form having dropped out of our language, today all verbs use the plural forms with "you", even when speaking to only one person.
