Difference between vision and mission

I would like to understand the difference between vision and mission and when I should use them.

In many situations the words mean completely different things (see any dictionary). I would guess, therefore, that you are referring to their use in cases such as "Our company's vision/mission is ..." or "At XYZ widgets, we have a vision ...". In those kinds of contexts, both words are now pretty much clapped out as a result of too much overblown use, and I would recommend avoiding both.
