Difference between venomous and poisonous

I came across the lyrics of a song titled 'The snake'.

And it says "You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm gonna die."

That's saying about a snake's poison.

As far as I'm concerned usually the poison for attacking is supposed to be described by the adjective 'venomous'.

Am I wrong or native speakers don't care of the difference?
