Difference between too much burden and too much of a burden

1. I have a question about the difference between "too much burden" and "too much of a burden."

What is the difference in meaning?

If it should have the same meaning, why are they used in both ways?

2. When I am late for school, a meeting, or etc., which should I use,

a) I am sorry for being late

b) I am sorry about being late

c) I am sorry to be late

d) I am sorry that I am late

and.. what is the meaning (or grammar) difference?

Thank you for your answer in advance.

Have a fantabulous evening.
