Difference between tidy up and put away?

Hi,

I know they are similar, but what are their differences?

Can they be followed by the same objects?

We can say "tidy up the room", but put away the room is wrong.

We can say "put away the toys", but can we say "tidy up the toys"?

Thanks very much

You have the idea: tidy up a space (which may not involve putting anything away) and put away an object. 'Tidy up the toys' would mean to wash them, I think.
