Difference between these sentences?

If you compare the following sentences, which is correct?

1. Having a chat with Bill, I called Isabelle.
2. Having had a chat with Bill, I called Isabelle.
3. After having had a chat with Bill, I called Isabelle.

I think maybe the first one is wrong. Is the word after required in third sentence? What is the difference between these three?

Top answer

harry1999 I think maybe the first one is wrong. It is a bit awkward, but possible. Those numbered 2 and 3 are fine and have the same meaning.

If you want three examples, yes. Without after in the third sentence, sentences 2 and 3 would be identical.

Hi,

Or just, particularly in casual spoken English,
After I chatted with Bill, I called Isabelle.
