difference between 'so' and 'very"

Hi, I'm trying to find out the difference between 'so' and 'very'.

When you say "I'm so tired." or "I'm very tired.", are there any differences?
Also does "It's so hot out there!" differ from "It's very hot out there!" ?

Thank you for your help Emotion: smile
