Difference between “parliment”,” senate”,”congress”,and “council”???

Sometimes , I feel so confusing when I come across the aboce words in the BBC world news headlines, for instance , some use “Hongkong Legislative Council Election” while others use “National People’s Congress”.Can anyone help to explain the words, thanks……

Well, they're all elected differently and have different roles. I'm sure you can find definitions and explanations if you google them.

P.S. It's parliament.

Hong Kong Legislative Council is the legislative body of Hong Kong.
NPC is the legislative body (supposedly) of People's Republic of China.

I guess these are just different names for organizations that serve similar functions (at least on paper)

I know how you feel..
normally a parliament represents the people and it's function is the legislative, that means they are making decisions, passing laws etc.
The parliament can sometimes be made up of two chambers, that means it can be bicameral. The first chamber (in the US it's called the Congress, in UK House of Commons.. they have different names in every country) is elected by all
