Difference between martial and military?

I got baffled by this GRE-type of analogy question -
(I do not have the correct answer - and hope that people more knowledgeable in English can help out)

Martial : Military
A) basic : simplistic
B) classic : musical
C) cosmic : planetary
D) runic : mysterious
E) endemic : patriotic

I actually thought the answer should be c -
martial : of war (armed forces)
military: of army (one particular type of armed forces)

cosmic: of world
planetary: of one celestial body

But many others think it's a simple synonym so they choose D

Any help? Thank you.

Thank you.
But I wonder if you could help address the part that confuses me -

martial is indeed used to refer to something adapted from the armed forces (as a whole, be it from army, navy, air force ...etc), yet the "first" meaning of military in many dictionaries is listed as pertaining to the army (non-exclusive though).

In this line of logic, cosmic refers to the entire un

There is no "general:particular" or "whole:part" relationship implied in the pair martial and military. So I don't think that cosmic:planetary has a similar relationship.
