Difference between Linux and Windows Hosting

I am not a techy guy at all but I have a couple of simple websites I play around with. I was looking to experiment with another website and when I was looking into external hosting options, I came across two.

What is the difference between Linux hosting and Windows Hosting?

Is there a real difference in speed or use?
Are there certain things you can and cannot do with Linux hosting compared to Windows?

I don't have the time nor expertise to run my own server so the site would be on a hosting company (like GoDaddy).

Is there a difference with maintenance / running a site on the two operating systems on your own server compared to on an external server?

It's not really an English question but still a good way to practise your skills. Emotion: smile

the difference is that linux has been around ALOT longer than windows hosting, therefor most scripts you find around the net will work on linux, whereas they won't always work on windows. The advantage to windows is familiarity, thats about it. NET but PHP is much easier anyway and supported by both.

  • Windows will still limit what you can achieve.

Hi,

The difference is nothing but the Operating System (OS) that we are going to implement for the server. Linux is more secure than windows. Linux is totaly free from viurs attackes. And also you can experience a lot in Linux hosting. My Vote goes to Linux...... Linux .... Linux.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I've been working with Linux for already 6 years. And if I were looking for a hosting, I would take a Linux based only. =)

Linux is an open source system and is therefore more cost-effective to operate and maintain than Windows, meaning that Linux hosting will cost you less than Windows hosting. Linux also has a reputation for stability and speed which means that Linux web servers will crash less often than Windows web servers and Linux runs most processes faster than Windows.
Linux supports a wide range of softw
