difference between "how far" and "how long"

hello to everybody and thanks for reading my post.
my mother tongue isn't english and i have a doubt about the difference between "how far" and "how long", because i had to complete a question: "how ___ is it from here to london?" and i thought that i could say "far" or "long", but in the correction, it said that it only could be "how long is it from here to london?" and i don't understand why it can't be too "how far". i've looked in a bilingual dictionnary and it hasn't sloved anything.
please, i would like to know if both anwers are correct , and why or why it is only correct "how long".
thankyou very much.

"How long" is clearly wrong in this sentence. To use "how long" the sentence would need to be reworded to something like "How long does it take to get from here to London".

It's your answer that's wrong. Native English-speakers do not say it all the time and it is not very common.
