Difference between "Have you" and "did you have"

Hi, can you please tell me what's the difference between :

Have you............ ?

and

Did you have........ ?

i know that if i'm talking about the past i need to use Did you have. but sometimes i read "have you..... ?" . What's the difference ?

"Have you" and "did you" are closely related, but "Did you have" is quite different, using "to have" as the main verb, rather than as an auxilliary. (simple past) I broke the vase. Did you break the vase?

The alleged event took place in the past in both cases, but with the second sent
