Difference between ''for me'' and ''to me''?

What is the main difference between these two?

For example, when I want to express that a movie was too dark/ scary for me (again, I use for).

Should I say The movie was too dark for me or The movie was too dark to me?

When I think about, for me sounds very selfish, although the movie was not made for me, I just express that FOR me it was dark, FOR some other person the movie would seem alright.

It's almost like:''For you, it seems normal, but for me it doesn't.'' or is that sentence wrong, too? Should it be to instead of for?

But to me sounds a bit clumsy in my opinion. In some other sentence, like ''Why are you so mean to me?'' it's logical to use to, but if a sentence expresses opinion, then I often don't know whether I should use for me or to me, the same is with for you and to you.

It's probably difficult for me/ to me because in first language, Estonian, has (a) very different grammar structure. Emotion: sad

Basically, any ideas which is better to use when I express my opinion about something?

Well, I read it all, but most of it is still confusing. The answers suggest that there's hardly any difference between for and to, but when I try both prepositions with different sentences, they feel very different. Oh well, I'll google more.

Thanks anyway.

Now in this case when someone says "Have a nice day" which of the two is the correct reply: "The same to you" or "The same for you" I mean that in Spanish we use For but in English is the Question!

"Same to you." (the article would most likely be dropped)

However, most people will simply respond with "You too."
