Difference between "during the month" and "for the month"?

What is the difference between "during the month" and "for the month"?

The meanings can be the same if they refer to the whole period ( I am staying in Honolulu during/for the month ), but 'during' is more usually used to refer to a more limited period within the month: Sometime during the month I will get a haircut.
