Difference between discrete and separate ( And their adverb form )

Can you please tell me what the difference is between words discrete and separate ?

Top answer

They mean more or less the same thing: disconnected. However, discrete is used more in technical-scientific contexts: After they quarreled they slept in separate bedrooms. Discrete functions are not continuous and therefore are not differentiable.
