The direct object is the recipient of the action; the indirect object receives the benefit of the action. Read more here: http://www.englishchick.com/gra

When there are 2 objects, one will be indirect. You can ask "to ***?" or "for ***?" and *** is the indirect one. You can ask "What?" and that is the direct one.

Mom baked Carol a pie.

Direct object:
What did mom bake? (She did not cook Carol in the oven!!!)

Indirect object:
Who did mom bake for?

Note: If the two (or more) nouns are joined
