Difference between commercial and advertisement

Hi,

Could anyone explain the difference between commercial and advertisement? I was once told that commercial is only on TV while advertisement is in magazine and newspaper. Is that true?

  • Yes, the use of "commercial" is usually restricted to TV and radio whereas advertisements can be found in magazines/newspapers, on billboards in public places as well as on TV , radio and the Internet nowadays.

I am interested in the same topic. What I understand is that commercials are for TV/Radio while advertisements are for printed media such as newspapers and magazines. The answer says ads can be found on TVs and radios. An ad can be written/drawn on TV, but I wonder how it could be made on radio.
