Difference between "Child support" and "Alimony" (in US)

Hello guys,

could someone explain to me the exact difference between the "alimony" and "child support"? I read that the child support can supplement the alimony...but please in what way? That the "child support" determines the frequency of paying?

thanks a lot in advance

Hi, Here's a quick initial comment. 'Alimony' may be paid in situations where the couple have no children. 'Child support' is only paid in situations where there are children.
