British: misnomer.
Briton is a modern vernacular for Prytani (painted people). The early tribes of 'Celtic' people from the Durotriges where Stonehenge is now to the Brigantians, the Ecini, the Silures of southern Wales used to daub themselves with woad, lime their hair and ride naked into battle against the Romans. They were also heavily tattooed as later written of by Tacitus of the Picts.
