Difference between ɛ and e

I am a native (anglo) English speaker from New Mexico, and in my speech I don't differentiate between ? and e. I was wondering if this is a common feature among Western American English speakers, because most of the literature I have read says that all speakers differentiate these sounds. Thanks

As long as you have the off glide /?/, you can distinguish DRESS vowels from FACE vowels.
