I typed grammar differences between american and british english into Google and it threw up dozens of useful-looking pages.

In a nutshell, yes, there are a few grammatical differences, as well as differences in spelling, vocabulary and expressions, but the vast majority of the language is exactly the same.

Even I don't bother with correct capitalisation when using search engines. They are case-insensitive.

The differences in prepositions always catch me by suprise.
Usually after I've "corrected" something to the American way and a British speaker says "Actually, that's the way we say it."
