What are the differences between acrid, acrimonious, acidulous, acerbic? I got the following definitions from thefreedictionary.com
acrid: Caustic in language or tone. acrimonious: Bitter and sharp in language or tone acidulous: Slightly sour in taste or in manner. acerbic: Sharp or biting, as in character or expression
My understanding is that acidulous is a bit milder when compared to others. However, I'm not sure how different the other three are from one another.
Can someone elucidate when one should be used but not another?
