Difference between a Movie and a Film

Can someone please tell me the difference between a Movie and a Film?

As far as I know, a Movie is same as a Film but I am now confused because.. why'd there be two words with same exact meaning? I think there is difference.

'film' is a higher class word for 'movie'. 'movie' is a more informal word for 'film'. In the US we often go to an American-made movie, but we also go to see foreign films.
