Difference

a) If I show you this piece of paper and ask you to tell me what color it is, what will you say?

b) If I showed you this piece of paper and asked you to tell me what color it is, what would you say?

Could you tell me, if any, whether a difference of nuance between the sentences above exists? I assume that b) sounds more polite than a) because it's a hypothetical.

The main difference that I notice is that "what will you say?" does not seem usual or very natural to me in such a context.
